Teaching in South Korea

Oh so close

I received my flight information last night. I’ll be flying out on Tuesday evening and arriving in Ulsan Thursday morning.

My route is Cleveland to Las Vegas. Las Vegas to Seoul. Seoul to Ulsan. That’s so much better than the route I took the last time I flew over there.

Now to start packing. Hmmm… Didn’t I say that yesterday?

Getting closer

I got an email late last night with the details of my flight. They scheduled it for this coming Saturday.

Ummmm…. I don’t think that’s really going to work. The chances of me having my passport and visa in my hands on Friday is slim to none. I’d be amazed if they got back to me before Saturday.

So I emailed my recruiter and he’s trying to have the flight pushed back to next Tuesday (a week from today).

The beginning of this grand adventure is in sight. So I guess I need to get my body to the store to buy those last few things I need and start packing.

Getting there

I got the approval from the folks in Korean for my visa. So I sent off my application, picture, passport and return envelope with my $45.00 on Friday.

It’s possible that it made it to the consulate in Chicago yesterday, but more likely it’ll be there on Tuesday (as tomorrow is a government holiday).

Give them two days to process it and another two days for it to get back to me.

If I’m really lucky, I’ll have it back by the end of the week.

Then it’s just a matter of the school booking my flight to Korea.

I do need to start packing…

The waiting game

And all I can do is wait. The folks in Seoul have my visa application. I’m just waiting for it to be approved and mailed back to me.

But given my contract starts in 7 days, I’m not holding out a lot of hope for starting next Monday.

Stay tuned to see what happens next.

Countdown to Korea

I signed my contract and mailed everything back to obtain my visa. Now it’s time to start the preparations. Buying the few teaching supplies I’ll be taking with me. Looking for a new laptop. Taking stock of my wardrobe. And my favorite… packing.

I’ve updated the Ticker.  I’m not sure if it’s accurate, but my best guess is I’ll be starting two weeks later than first planned.

It’s official

I have been offered a contract to teach English in South Korea again. I’ll be teaching in Ulsan . It’s not that far from where I was the last time.

The name of the school is Leeh-hwa Little Campus School. They have students ranging in age from pre-school to sixth grade. I’ll be teaching pre-school (or kindergarten as it’s referred to in Korea) in the morning and elementary school in the afternoon.

There is a possibility that I will be teaching science and math as well. That would be really cool. I’m a math/science person at heart. As an undergraduate, I had a double major in psychology and comprehensive sciences. The science part included biology, chemistry, physics and math, with my emphasis area being chemistry.

Let the preparations begin!
