Sparkler Update

Sparkler is doing well. She’s getting big. She’s getting very big. I hope she stops growing soon. She used to fit in the palm of my hand. No more.

She definitely has a personality of her own. She lets me know when she’s unhappy with something. She can be very loud at 6 o’clock in the morning when she needs food or water. She seems to like the “other stuff” (the seeds and such) in her food better than the guinea pig pellets, so I bought a bag of the other stuff to mix in with her food. She still also loves oranges, peppers and cucumbers.

So now for a few pictures…

Enjoy!

New Blog!

Never fear, ESL Adventures isn’t going anywhere.

WordPress.com came out with a new theme a few weeks ago. It’s specifically for photo bloggers. OK, I’m not the best behind a camera, but I can point and shoot with the best of them.

I post a fair number of pictures on this blog. With a new theme that customizes itself to your images, I decided to put some of my best shots in a new blog.

I’ll still be publishing pictures here. The photo blogging theme doesn’t play nice with galleries or multiple images in a post. But it’s still something fun to play with.

Without further ado, I introduce

Children’s Day

Monday is Children’s Day in Korea.  Children’s Day is celebrated on May 5th of each year.  Kids love it for the presents (our kids left with huge bags of loot).  Teachers love it because it means a day off.  This year, because it falls on a Monday, that gives us a long weekend (which is sorely needed right now).

Dodoland Online has a nice little article on Children’s Day as celebrated in South Korea.

So to all my Korean students and colleagues, enjoy Children’s Day!

Only in Korea :-)

Do you find rubber penguins that light up when you squeeze them. They’re made to go on your cell phone. But mine is going to sit on my desk at work.

The pink one is mine, and the blue one is a gift for my Linux tutor. I mean, what else does the good Linux geek need?

Costco

Dear God…  Costco is a beautiful place.  I don’t know what the best part was.  The pizza with enough cheese on it for two additional slices or the bounty of delicious western food.

I did well.  I made it out spending only 65 dollars.  I bought a big block of cheese, a large package of chicken breasts, a big box of Honey Nut Cheerios, a big box of Nutri-Grain bars, some Jello and a case of Eggo Waffles that I split with another couple.

I realize I could have gotten the cheese and the chicken here in Ulsan.  But, it was a much better deal to get it at Costco.  Chicken here is about 5 dollars for a half kilogram package.  The package I bought in Costco was 10 dollars and weighed 1.5 kilograms.  Same deal with the cheese.

I had a really good time.  It was a long day, but definitely worth it.
