Pre-Chuseok Party

Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) is next week.  Since we’re on vacation next week, we had our party today.  Yay for parties!

The kids wore their hanbok (traditonal Korean clothing).  We made songpyong (rice cakes stuffed with sesame seeds).  We played yootnori (a game played with four sticks) and jaegi (kind of like hackysack).  The kids did the ganggangsullae (a traditional dance).

The kids looked wonderful in their hanbok.  The songpyong were delicious.  I think a good time was had by all.

Pre Summer Vacation Party

Yesterday was the last day before summer vacation.  Yay!  We had a bit of a party for the kids.  We played two games.  One was eat the onion ring snack off the rope and the other was eat the cream puff snack thing out of the plate, both sans hands.  The kids had fun.  The teachers had fun.  All in all, it was a great way to spend a half hour or so in the morning.

Enjoy the pictures!!

Welcome!

I just want to say a quick welcome to our two new teachers.  Jared and Kate join us from the good old U S of A.  That brings our complement back up to 8.

Preparations for Presentations are going well.  I’m very impressed with the progress the kids are making.  I’m especially proud of my two beginning 6 year old classes.

Goodbye and Good Luck

I just want to say goodbye and good luck to Jon and Noreen.  They’ve finished their year at Little Campus.  They’re back to the UK for a while.  They are thinking of coming back to teach at a public school.  No matter what they do decide to do, I’m thankful for the opportunity to get to know them.

Sue’s Wedding

Sue got married yesterday.  Unlike the previous weddings I attended, this one was in a church.  It was a beautiful service.  Sue’s husband sang a love song to her during the wedding.  I wish her and her husband the best of luck for the future.  They’ll be honeymooning in Saipan.

New Schedule (sort of)

So over the last week, we’ve had the vast majority of the November speaking and writing class drop just that class.  Boo hoo.  :-(  Most of the kids are now enroled in some sort of Korean reading program.  Whatever, it’s up to their parents.  With only two kids in the class (Maggie and Minnie are the only two) it was decided that it wasn’t feasible (read profitable) to run the class anymore.  Maggie and Minnie were combined with the October speaking and writing class.  In some ways it’ll be good for all the kids involved.  Maggie and Minnie are somewhat more advanced than the kids in the October class, so they’ll raise the bar, so to speak.  In addition, Maggie and Minnie will be around kids other than the ones in November class.

So what does that all mean for me?  It means I just lost five classes a week.  I had been right at 60 classes a week.  Now I’m at 55, with is under my contract.  That’s not a bad thing.  I still get paid for teaching 60.  However, there goes the overtime.  The way our pay periods run, sometimes you’d end up with an extra day or two that ended up being overtime.  Hopefully in February when the new school year starts things will get back to normal.  In a way, it’s kind of boring with so much free time at work.  It’s nice now because I’m finishing up report cards.  But once those are done, there’s not much to do.

So I thought I’d just post my schedule for those of you who actually care, LOL.

On proofreading, I noticed I started all the paragraphs of this entry with “so”.  Hmmmm, you’d think I’m an English teacher or something.
